When it comes time to prepare your technology for
the move, keep in mind that all technology is delicate. More
than any other piece of property, your technology needs to be
secured during the move. The high cost of materials and repair
persons should make this a priority.
- Planning is crucial. It extends beyond the move to the
overall future performance of your entire
organization;
- Be sure to involve:
* Internal departments such as
IT, facilities, senior management and employees
who use individual desktop
applications; * External companies such as
telecommunications companies, communication
design consultants, architects and
engineering firms;
- Back up all computer data systems before your move
including individual employees files;
- Do not include laptop computers in your moving
inventory. Employees should be responsible for their
individual units;
- Leave plenty of lead-time to install new
telecommunications systems. Planning and implementation
always take longer than anticipated, particularly when it
comes to telephone cutovers or when your phone number is
switched to the new location;
- Disconnect/Reconnect is critical. We recommend using the
services of a professional to disconnect and reconnect all
systems and components during the move, including:
*
Telecommunication systems * Personal computers (PC) *
Telephones * Printers * Fax machines
- Allot time and manpower for testing and troubleshooting
technology systems after reinstallation. This is typically
done on the Sunday of the move weekend.
